Disney Reshuffles 2026 Schedule: Star Wars Film Dropped, Ice Age 6 Announced

Disney news has cut a Star Wars movie from its 2026 schedule while a new installment in a lucrative animated series will fill the frame.

In addition, Ice Age sequel has now been planned to release on December 18, 2020 and Ice Age 6 has now been planned to release on December 18, 2026. It had not been known which Star Wars film was initially planned to be released in that specific date.

Last week Disney said that Simon Kinberg had been hired to pen and produce a new Star Wars trilogy. Kathleen Kennedy is also on board to produce the trilogy, according to an announcement that indicated at the time that the films would introduce all new characters and would not be a continuation of the Skywalker saga trilogy, which comprised episodes 1-9 of the space epic franchise.

Of course a companion Star Wars film that features Daisy Ridley’s character Rey Skywalker is already being developed under the director of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. This project was first brought to light at Star Wars Celebration in London in April the 2023.

Back in January this year, the studio unveiled that Jon Favreau directing Pedro Pascal’s standalone feature titled The Mandalorian & Grogu would open in theaters on May 22, 2026. The movie is a prequel to the TV spin-off series, The Mandalorian, which debuted on Disney+ last year with its third season.

It was considered an obvious work; Disney spoke at the D23 Brazil last week and confirmed the the Ice Age 6 is in the making now with the original voices from Ray Romano, Queen Latifah and John Leguizamo. The animated property was bought for Disney when the company bought 21st Century Fox, and the new movie will be the first theatrical feature in the series since the acquisition was finalized in 2019.
