Using its twitter handle, the IDF noted “Hamas systematically violates international law and in response, Israel will act with force and determination against the terrorist organisations”.
The spokesman for the civil defence agency in Gaza, Mahmoud Bassal, said that the school had been used by Palestinians fleeing the conflict.
Abu, a displaced man who was sleeping at the school said the attack happened when he was asleep according to BBC Arabic.
”We were sleeping nicely and then we were woke up with a very big bang,” he said.
“The incident happened last night,” he said, adding that he was a man named Mahmoud, and he only slept in a tent in the school yard The incident happened last night.”

On Sunday, for the second time in a row, the Pope criticised the Israeli operation in Gaza.
He said he has suffering pain in thinking such cruelty as, machine-gunning of children, bombing schools and hospitals.
The director of the Kamal Adwan hospital, Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, said its generators had been hit and accused the Israeli army of targeting the fuel tank.
The WHO director-general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, urged the IDF to stop attacking areas near the hospital.
Accuses of “intensive shelling close to Kamal Adwan Hospital and receiving an order to evacuate the hospital are alarming” he posted in the social media statement.
”We demand an end to hostilities in the proximity of the hospital and for the safety of the patients and health care providers.”
The hospital’s director also said that Israeli forces where treating the hospital “as if we were a military installation”.
“Anyone who comes out of the hospital can be attacked,” Dr Hussam Abu Safiya said, of the medical staff as well as patients.
He also pointed out that moving the operations of the hospital would compromise the patients, and requested that the health staff “be allowed to work without the concern of being evacuated”.
Israel has yet to respond to the reports of a stand down but when speaking to the BBC said that the hospital is still active.
Different Palestinian factions who have participated in the battle have informed the BBC that a truce is “nearer than it has ever been.”
Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry reported more than 45,000 Palestinian deaths during the 14-month war between Israel and Hamas.
The war started when Hamas-led gunmen staged an unprovoked cross-border assault on southern Israel on 7 October 2023 after about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others kidnapped.
